‘Sukhmani Sahib Paath  at MLU DAV College Phagwara on the  birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’


 

Phagwara November 25 (Ashok Sharma-Chetan Sharma) Reverence paid to Guru Nanak Dev Ji at MLU DAV College Phagwara under the guidance of Dr. Kiranjeet Randhawa.  The ceremony began with ‘Japji Sahib Path’ which is a prayer at the beginning of ‘Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’. It was composed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru among the ten sikh gurus. After the completion of ‘Japji Sahib Path’, ‘Path’ of ‘Shri Sukhmani Sahib’ began which is a prayer of peace and joy of mind and is a set of 192 ‘padas’ i.e. stanzas of ten hymns present in the holy ‘Guru Granth Sahib Ji’. Kirtan was recited and speeches were also given on the life, teachings and philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Sh. Satpal Singh Multani Managing Director of Richi Travels Jalandhar was the chief guest of the function. He said according Guru Nanak God is omnipresent (Sarv viapak) in all creations and visible everywhere to the spiritually awankened. The Guru gave the message of universal brotherhood that religion is not mere consistence of words but actually looks upon all men and women equally. He also asked the people to always speak the truth without any fear. He was strongly against all artificially created divisions and discriminations. He condemned the caste structure and showed a path to his followers. He said the caste of a person is based on what he does means his deeds. Dr. Randhawa apprised the students that Guru Nank Dev was known for his political, social and spiritual views which were based on love, equality, fraternity and virtue. She further said Guru Nanak Dev always focussed to shun five evils in life ‘Ego’, ‘Anger’, Greed’, ‘Attachment’ and Lust’. The three duties that every person must carry out are “Nam Japna” means pray to God; ‘Kirt Karna’ means earning an honest living and ‘Vand Chhakna’ means sharing one’s earnings with others, giving charity and caring for others. He stood for Karma as the basis of dharma, and he transformed the idea of spiritualism into the ideology of social responsibility and social change. The ‘path’ was organized in the college premises  with pious intention of seeking the holy blessings for the upliftment of the institution. After seeking the blessings from the Almighty ‘Kada Parshad’ was distributed to all, ‘Guru Ka Langar’ was served to all the dignitaries, staff and students. Students of the college helped in serving the ‘langar’. The occasion concluded with the prayer by college principal to the almighty for giving success to everyone and peace and joy in everybody’s life. Smt. Pooja Uppal, Dr. Rajiv Deol Principal of DAV College, Phillaur, Dr. Ramandeep Singh, Sh. Ashish Prashar, Sh. Barinder Sharma, Sh. Sunil Thakur  were also present.
